Covid-19

Francine Delany will follow the guidance and recommendations of the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NC DHHS).

COVID-19 Symptoms
Fever or chills * Cough * Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing * Fatigue * Muscle or body aches * Headache* New loss of taste or smell * Sore throat* Congestion or runny nose * Nausea or vomiting * Diarrhea

Contact tracing and close contacts are no longer part of schools’ typical management procedures. Symptomatic students should be kept home or sent home.

At this time, wearing masks at Francine Delany is optional except during the return to school of individuals who have tested positive or have had symptoms. Click the button below to know the guidelines families are expected to follow if your child has symptoms and/or tests positive for COVID-19.

Schools are responsible for excluding persons who test positive or have symptoms of COVID-19 and reporting COVID-19 cases among staff and students to the Buncombe County Health Department. This requirement is met by reporting to our school nurse, Amy Alday, BSN, RN, NCSN. Please email Amy@fdnsc.net and the classroom teacher to report a positive case of COVID. If learners are experiencing symptoms, then follow the same guidelines for other illnesses (i.e. email teacher/attendance why they are absent).

Antigen tests (those that we used all last year) can no longer be used to rule out COVID. Only a negative result on a PCR test is accepted. Positive results on an antigen test OR a PCR test can be used to diagnose COVID.

We do not have PCR tests at school.Click HERE to find locations offering COVID-19 testing.

Francine Delany will no longer report the number of school-related cases. Instead, families and staff are encouraged to go to COVID-19 dashboard for for current information on COVID-19 community levels, metrics, and trends.
