Operations Coordinator-Buffy Fowler

Buffy FowlerBuffy Fowler is one of the seven founding teachers of Francine Delany New School for Children. She taught in second through sixth grades for ten years before becoming the Operations Coordinator at FDNSC. She has a B.S. in Education and an M.A. in Education from Western Carolina University. She began her teaching career in 1994 with Asheville City Schools. She has also worked at Western Carolina University as a clinical faculty member teaching math and research methods. Buffy loves spending time with her furry kids, Grayson and Daisy, who you meet at the school every now and then. She enjoys mapping all of her hikes on the map of the Blue Ridge Parkway!

Outreach Coordinator-Tyrone Greenlee

Tyrone GreenleeTyrone is very proud to have been associated with Francine Delany New School since the school’s opening in the fall of 1997.  He works as the Outreach Coordinator for the school and handles press and media releases for school events.  Tyrone also oversees the Peer Mediation and Mentoring Programs as well as providing mediation services for the school.   In addition, Tyrone is the staff liaison for the PTO, recruits school volunteers, and coordinates All School Celebrations.  He is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and worked for many years as a staff person at New Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church.  Tyrone also does dismantling racism work in the community and pursues his love of music through singing in his church choir and with a local band.

Curriculum Coordinator – Jessica Roberts

Jessica received a bachelor’s degree and attained her licensure in K-6 elementary education from Champlain College in Burlington, VT. Jessica began her teaching career in 1999 at Evergreen Community Charter School as a Kindergarten/1st grade teacher. She came to Francine Delany in 2008 and has taught Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grades. She completed her National Board Certification in 2010. Jessica is a member of Francine Delany’s leadership group, serving on the Executive Council and the Board of Directors. In 2018 Jessica graduated with a Masters of Arts in Teacher Leadership. In her free time she likes to run and spend time with her family. She loves her job at Francine Delany, where she can combine her love of children, academic inspiration, movement, art, outdoors, and music.

Afterschool Coordinator – Cory Finneron

Cory graduated from the University of North Carolina at Asheville with an Interdisciplinary Degree, combining several of the social sciences. He has lived in Western North Carolina almost his whole life and loves the mountains here. He has been at Francine Delany working in the afterschool program since 2010 and loves it.



Afterschool Staff – Bryn Peterson

Bryn graduated from Union College with a B.A. degree in Cultural Anthropology and a minor in Women and Gender Studies. She loves living in Asheville and exploring the area around it.  When she’s not at school, she enjoys knitting, sewing, running, and hiking. Bryn has been a part of the afterschool program since 2014 and is so glad she ended up at Francine Delany.


Afterschool Staff – Sean Donnelly

Sean earned his Associates Degree from AB Tech and transferred to University of North Carolina where he completed the Music Technology program. Sean has been playing music locally with many bands since 1998 and continues with his present band, the Empire Strikes Brass. He plays multiple instruments, but professionally plays piano and drums for his gigs. He also has a passion for recording and producing music with software and manipulating sounds with various Digital Audio Workstations. Sean enjoys working in the Afterschool program and feels it is a great way to really get to know the kids with the freedom of playing and hanging out each      afternoon with them.

Administrative Assistant – Debbie Cottle

Debbie came to Francine Delany first as a parent in 1997. Starting in 1998, she began working in the third/fourth grade combination classroom as a part-time assistant.  When her youngest daughter started kindergarten in 2001, she became a full time teaching assistant and rotated from kindergarten through fourth grade. This year, Debbie transitioned out of the classroom and into the front office. Though it has been hard to leave the classroom and all of her “children”, Debbie said, “This school has been a safe place for me and my children. It has been a privilege to watch our students turn into successful adults. I am proud to say I                                                belong here.”

Operation Coordinator’s Assistant – Tara Byassee

Tara graduated from Eastern Michigan University with a Bachelor’s degree in chemistry and math. She then graduated with a master’s degree in analytical chemistry from Indiana University. Being a lover of learning, she is so happy to have landed here at Francine Delany.
