Arts Coordinator- Chris Corral
Chris Corral is the Arts and Electives Coordinator, as well as the Art Specialists for K thru 5th grades. He coordinates the Music, Movement, Spanish, and Health/PE Specialists for K thru 5th grades. Chris also collaborates with the specialists teachers as well as the classroom teachers for special events and gatherings. Chris also recruits volunteer teachers as well as hire electives teachers for the middle school’s electives program which happens on Fridays and culminates in an elective fair. Chris is very excited to offer the middle school students experiences that will give them a chance to try new things. Chris has been at Francine Delany for the past 6 years and has been an electives teacher teaching art and Spanish as well as the art Specialists. Chris has also been the fifth as well as the third grade teacher’s assistant. Chris reports to have had many great and rewarding experiences with the students of Francine Delany and looks forward to many more.
Operations Coordinator-Buffy Fowler
Buffy Fowler is one of the seven founding teachers of Francine Delany New School for Children. She taught in second through sixth grades for ten years before becoming the Operations Coordinator at FDNSC. She has a BS in Education and a MA in Education from Western Carolina University. She began her teaching career in 1994 with Asheville City Schools. She has also worked at Western Carolina University as a clinical faculty member teaching math and research methods. Buffy loves dogs and will often be seen with the school “mascot”, Daisy the beagle. Outside of school Buffy loves to spend time with her family and Daisy! She loves spring and fall walks at Carrier Park.
Outreach Coordinator-Tyrone Greenlee
Tyrone is very proud to have been associated with Francine Delany New School since the school’s opening in the fall of 1997. He works as the Outreach Coordinator for the school and handles press and media releases for school events. Tyrone also oversees the Peer Mediation and Mentoring Programs as well as providing mediation services for the school. In addition, Tyrone is the staff liaison for the PTO, recruits school volunteers, and coordinates All School Celebrations. He is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and worked for many years as a staff person at New Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church. Tyrone also does dismantling racism work in the community and pursues his love of music through singing in his church choir and with a local band.
Facilities Manager-Frank Griffin
Frank Griffin has served as the Facilities Manager at FDNSC since 2002. His responsibilities include all facets of building, grounds and systems maintenance. Frank has been proud to be a part of the planning and design team for our new construction program and has implemented many safety and security upgrades for our campus. His emphasis has been on energy efficiency for new construction as well as retro-fits for our existing buildings. Frank was born in Knoxville, TN and attended Walter’s State College in Morristown, TN. He lived and worked in Kansas City, MO as an Elephant Trainer and Asst. Curator at the Kansas City Zoo for a number of years before returning to the mountains in WNC. He was a counselor for adjudicated youth in Jackson County residential group homes for six years prior to joining the staff at FDNSC. Frank looks forward to the time when all of our school buildings are “permanent” and he can spend more time on campus landscaping and beautification. He lives next door to the school with his wife, Nancy, and youngest of five children, Jesse. All five of Frank and Nancy’s children attended FDNSC.
Administrative Assistant-Nancy Griffin
Nancy Griffin is the Administrative Assistant at FDNSC tending to school office needs, providing staff support and giving school tours. Nancy began her work at FDNSC in 1998 cleaning school buildings and participating in the PTO. Her full time work began in July of 2000. Nancy was born in Houston, Texas and attended college in Knoxville, Tn. and Mobile, Al. Nancy worked has a zookeeper, working with exotic animals and rehabbing native raptors at 3 different zoos where she met her husband, Frank. Nancy left zoo work to be at home with her 5 beautiful children (all FDNSC alumni). Outside of the usual work day Nancy helps coach our school’s Girls on the Run team, volunteers at local races and loves to run.
